Hospital accused of negligence after patient falls

As the result of an incident that occurred in 2008, a medical malpractice suit has been filed alleging hospital negligence. The incident involves a woman who says she was escorted to a hospital bathroom and then left unattended. When she gave up hope that anyone would assist her, she attempted to get up on her own and fell. She suffered injuries to her head, back, neck and leg.

Proper patient care is an issue across the United States and here in Georgia. Unfortunately, Georgia hospitals are not immune to such a lapse in patient care. Incidents like this, where a patient's needs are not being properly attended to, are likely taking place in hospitals every day, but people might not realize it is happening. It is only when people hear that someone is hurt that they may realize there is a problem. Patients need to be vigilant about the medical treatment they receive so the next story they read like this is not about a hospital in Atlanta.

According to court documents, the woman is attempting to recover $600,000 in damages for pain and suffering, medical expenses and other expenses associated with her fall. The woman says the hospital and its staff failed in three important ways. First, they did not have procedures in place to prevent such a fall. Second, they failed to instruct the patient about precautions. Finally, they inadequately monitored the patient's response to pain medication.

People expect that they will receive proper care when they are in the hospital. When that does not happen, those who are responsible should be held accountable.
