Soldier recognized after being killed by a truck driver

An accident that occurred in Alabama has received recognition at Fort Benning located in Columbus, Georgia. Sargent Jose Jimenez was a native of south Texas and a part of a unit stationed at Fort Benning. The soldier was riding his motorcycle on highway 165 when a log truck suddenly crushed him.

Those who worked with the soldier took time to recognize and remember the man. They described him as dependable and mature, a solid soldier. A captain at Fort Benning recalled his professional abilities stating that the soldier would be missed.

Accidents that occur between trucks and other vehicles can be particularly dangerous. Commercial trucks often weigh more than 80,000 pounds. An average car, on the other hand, weighs approximately 3,000 pounds, making drivers much more susceptible to injury when a collision between a truck and car occurs.

Many truck drivers in the state of Georgia practice safe driving habits while on the road, but on some occasions they do not take the proper amount of care necessary to protect others. A truck driver is negligent when it is recognized that they have a duty of care, they fail to uphold that duty and injury results.

A truck driver may be negligent under several circumstances. If the driver has been on the road for a long period of time without stopping, they may be placing themselves, and others, in dangers way. Drivers can also be negligent when they turn too quickly, fail to signal their turns, or drive while distracted.

Truck drivers are not the only ones who can be held responsible for negligence. In some situations the truck driver's company, the truck manufacturer, or the parts manufacturer can also be found negligent.

When serious injury or death results from a truck accident, injured parties are able to come forward through the Georgia court system and gain compensation. Injured parties looking to protect their rights should seek the advice of a legal professional in the state of Georgia.
