Man dies from heat after being left outside at nursing home

When people in Fulton County make the difficult decision to place a loved one in a nursing facility, there is an expectation that the staff will adhere to a reasonable standard of care. Of course, in a best case scenario, the care will exceed minimum expectations, and the elderly or ill will be treated as if they themselves were the loved one of the nursing home staff. However, it's an unfortunate reality that nursing home neglect occurs, and it's important to know what to do when it does happen.

An allegation of nursing home negligence has been lodged against a facility after an elderly patient died. He had been left out in the sun during a very hot day for hours. The man, age 90, had a sunburn, and his temperature had risen to 105 degrees. One nurse had checked on him and left him outside in spite of the heat. The three nurses who had been responsible for the man's care were dismissed. The nursing home has been fined in the past for negligence and abuse.

There are numerous ways in which an elderly or ill person can be mistreated by nursing home staff. They can suffer from infections, be starved, be assaulted in a variety of ways, suffer falls or die because of the failure to care for them properly. If there is evidence of this or a strong suspicion that it has happened, it's imperative that the family left behind know both how to pursue the nursing home to be compensated and how to report what happened to the authorities.

In this case, the nursing home in question allegedly left an elderly man out in the searing heat for hours. He is believed to have died because of the heat. When this type of incident happens, the family who has suffered the loss needs to understand their legal rights. For that, it's advisable that they discuss the matter with a qualified nursing him neglect attorney as soon as possible so the family can investigate the case and explore the available options.
