Wisconsin woman responsible for car accidents while driving drunk

| Nov 16, 2012 | Car Accidents

Driving a car is a privilege that should be taken seriously. One of the most careless things a driver can do is to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol, thereby becoming a danger to themselves and everyone they encounter on the road.

Car accidents can be caused by any number of conditions, but one of the most common reasons behind a car collision is an impaired driver. Recently, a 21-year-old Wisconsin woman has been accused of driving drunk and causing three separate car accidents in Green and Dane Counties, both just west of Milwaukee County.

The young woman first sideswiped a car driven by a mother travelling with her infant daughter down a rural road. The suspect was apparently driving the wrong way, and continued to drive after she hit the car. Then, around two hours later, the young woman hit a telephone box before colliding head-on into a car on a county highway. Luckily no one sustained any serious injury in the accidents.

If police verify in an accident investigation that the suspect is the young woman behind the collisions, she will face charges for causing injury through drunk driving. But even if a drunk driver is convicted of their crimes in a case like this, it does very little to ease the financial burden victims must shoulder through no fault of their own.

In car accidents, people often suffer painful injuries and their vehicles and other property are damaged. Sometimes they have to take time off from work to receive medical attention. With the help of a personal injury attorney, victims of a drunk driver may be able to sue to recover monetary damages for their losses. In a successful personal injury case a court may award compensation for medical expenses, the cost to repair or replace damaged property, lost wages and pain and suffering.
